Presentation: Trauma Care: Challenges faced at -30

In this presentation Carol Anne will present a few case studies that outline the challenges faced when providing trauma care to patients in extreme cold temperatures. Carol Anne will review the various equipment- related issues that arise and how we work to mitigate these issues. Carol Anne will discuss other challenges faced and the training provided to prepare the crews for winter operations.

Born and raised in northern Canada. Carol Anne has spent her entire nursing career working in the area; 25 years spent as an emergency nurse and emergency nursing educator. For the past 14 years Carol Anne has been a flight nurse with STARS air ambulance, a rotary wing critical care service with 6 bases across 3 Canadian provinces. She has spent time as a clinical educator at STARS and most recently as the Clinical Operations manager.
