Late in the evening of 31 December 2010 (New Year’s Eve) whilst most of us were working hard to aide the community in their celebrations the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) 2010 guidelines and flow charts were posted on the ARC website.

These documents are the result of substantial work by the ARC and its member bodies and will see changes in both Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Life Support (ALS). The key BLS focus in these guidelines is the maintenance of compressions. The key ALS focus has been to reduce the number of medications that are recommended for use.

The guidelines also include statements about the level of evidence that was available for use to make the determinations.
